Welcome to the world of 3D printing! If you’re new to it, this guide will walk you through each step-from downloading your first model to holding your first printed object. Let's dive in!

📁 Step 1: Download a 3D Model

Before you can print, you need a 3D model file, typically in .stl or .obj format.

📈 Step 2: Slice the Model

Slicing turns your 3D model into G-code that your printer understands.

Recommended Slicer Software:

How to Slice:

  1. Open the slicer and set up your printer (e.g., Ender 3).

  2. Import your .stl file by dragging it into the slicer.

  3. Adjust these basic settings:

    • Layer Height: 0.2 mm

    • Infill: 15-20%

    • Supports: Enable only if needed

    • Build Plate Adhesion: Use "Brim" to avoid warping

  4. Click "Slice" and then "Save to SD Card" or export the G-code.

🚀 Step 3: Prepare Your Printer

Before printing, make sure your printer is set up and ready.

Basic Prep Checklist:

  • Clean the Build plate with IPA.

  • Level the bed - Download the gcode for Ender here

  • Preheat the nozzle and bed (PLA: 200°C nozzle, 60°C bed)

  • Load the filament into the extruder

  • Insert your SD card or USB with the G-code file

💡 Step 4: Start Printing!

  • Select the G-code file from the printer’s menu

  • Watch the first few layers to make sure the print sticks well

  • Don’t leave it fully unattended the first time

🧼 Step 5: Post-Processing

Once your print is done:

  • Let the bed cool before removing your print

  • Use a scraper or spatula if needed

  • Clean up supports or brim if present

  • Sand and finish for smoother edges

✨ Bonus Tips for Beginners

  • Start with PLA – it’s the easiest filament to print with

  • Update your slicer software regularly

  • Use a glue stick or painter’s tape for better adhesion

  • Keep practicing! Failures are just learning steps

❤️ Happy Printing!

3D printing is as much about experimentation as it is about creation. Have fun, try new models, and don’t be afraid to tweak your settings as you go. Your journey has just begun!
